There are various treatments to cure cancer and one of the methods to treat cancer is by way of chemotherapy. Not all types of cancers can be treated with the help of chemotherapy. Drug cytotoxic is used to help destroy the cancer cells in the body. It is believed that chemotherapy is used to treat cancer but then there are some patients who are not suffering from cancer have undergone chemotherapy with the smallest dose of the medicine and with the barest side effects seen. Though shocking there are 200 different types of cancers and there are about 50 chemotherapy drugs which help to fight against cancer cells.

The type of medicine used in chemotherapy depends upon the kind of cancer you are suffering from, which part of the body has the cancer originated and the appearance of the cancer cells under the microscope and to what extent has the cancer cells spread its tentacles in the body.

Chemotherapy has always been used in various other treatments like the hormonal therapy, biological therapies, surgery and many other therapies.

Most of the time chemotherapy is administered into the veins through an injection this mode of injecting the drug into the vein is known as intravenous chemotherapy. Chemotherapy can also be administered orally with the help of tablets and capsules this is known as oral chemotherapy. Chemotherapy drugs can be injected directly into the muscles and this is known as intramuscular injection, this drug is administered beneath the skin surface and is called subcutaneous injection. In this method the drug reaches the blood stream directly.

Chemotherapy is also injected into the spine where it combines with the spinal fluid is called as intrathecal chemotherapy. An anti-cancer drug administered into the pelvic cavity is called as intracavity chemotherapy. In this case the anti-cancer drugs remain in the area of administration for some time. There are chemotherapy creams which are applied on the skin surface to treat skin cancers.

Sometimes there is a need to administer two or more different kinds of chemotherapy drugs in case of oral and intravenous chemotherapy. In intravenous chemotherapy there are four different ways of administering the chemotherapy drug into the body.

1] Cannula - is a tube that is inserted into the body to remove the fluid from the body. Through this tube anti-cancer drugs are administered into the body.

2] Oral chemotherapy: In this mode of treatment you have to take anti-cancer chemotherapy drugs orally. You have to follow the instructions carefully and take the oral medication which comes in the form of capsules and tablets. In this mode of treatment you need not get yourself hospitalized. You need to meet up with your doctor in case of difficulty in consuming the oral chemotherapy drugs. Anti-cancer drugs taken orally or through intravenous methods have shown to have some side effects. You need to be fully aware about these side effects so that you can take anti-suffering drugs to prevent side effects as much as possible.
