COMPLETE Guide For Chemotherapy Effects and It's Treatment

GTX chemotherapy

Chemotherapy as you all know helps destroy the growth of cancerous cells in the body. In this mode of treatment a single drug or combination of drugs or chemicals are used either to destroy the cancerous cells completely or slow down the growth of these cells. To treat pancreatic cancer or metastatic pancreatic cancer GTX Chemotherapy is used, persons suffering from pancreatic cancer suffer from asthenia and pain. A combination of three drugs ie gemicitabine, fluorouracil (5FU) and docetaxel is used in this treatment.

The use of gemicitabine is the standard procedure to treat metastatic pancreatic cancers. But then the use this drug alone has not been so effective as compared to the use of the other two drugs along with gemicitabine which has proved to be more effective and well tolerated by the body.

GTX Chemotherapy is not a done in a single cycle, here the treatment comprises with a rest period in between every cycle or stage of treatment thus giving the patient time to recover from any so called side effects that are mostly associated with all most all kinds of cancer treatments.

What is the mode of treatment?

The person suffering from metastatic pancreatic cancer is treated with gemicitabine from day 1 to day 14 and docetaxel is administered to the patient through intravenous on the fourth day and the eleventh day of the treatment.

Person suffering from metastatic pancreatic cancer has to undergo this treatment after every 21 days thus giving the patient more chances of living.

As in case of all kinds of chemotherapy here too there is a loss of healthy cells i.e. the cancerous cells are destroyed or rather their growth is stopped but then the normal cells growing around these cancerous cells are also destroyed. It has been noticed that side effects varies from patients to patients, while some suffer severe side effects there are those who suffer mildly.

Side effects that are commonly associated with chemotherapy are anaemia, vomiting, bleeding, low resistance, hair loss, sore mouth, memory loss, nausea and low appetite. It has been noticed that due to chemotherapy the blood cell count is on the lower side thus making the patient susceptible to infections. It therefore becomes necessary to check the blood count of the patient before going in for chemotherapy as there should be sufficient blood cells so that the patient does not suffer more. These are all temporary side effects which ware off slowly once the treatment cycle is complete. But then the patient should not take unnecessary chances and consult the doctor in case the side effects persists even after the treatment is complete or he or she suffers more when undergoing treatment.

The use of GTX Chemotherapy has shown wonderful results to treat patients suffering from metastatic pancreatic cancer thus increasing the survival chances of the patient. Gemicitabine, docetaxel and fluorouracil (5FU) has been a boon to those suffering from metastatic pancreatic cancer as they have shown wonderful results not only stopping the growth of the cancerous cells but also have shown a remarkable survival rate of the patients.
