History of chemotherapy
Since chemotherapy is an effective remedy it is worth understanding the history of chemotherapy. In the year 1940 there was inception of chemotherapy. In 1940 there was some development seen in the field of drugs used for cancer. Even though the development had already started at that time researchers claim that there were a few limitations with these drugs.
The first era of chemotherapy history was between 1940-1950. In the modern age the invention of nitrogen mustard was found which was considered as a breakthrough. Explaining about nitrogen mustard is a chemical agent used in treating cancer. There have been many researches going on to find out about that. Again history explains that there were uses of antifolates in treatment of cancer. This point is considered as something that had turn around the whole thing.
Sidney Faber took up study on the effects of acid on the metabolism of the people who had leukemia. This person was a pathologist of Harvard Medical School. Faber took up certain tests on children and found out that folic acid is helpful in stimulation of lymphoblastic leukemia cells that are acute. Then there was another treatment too which was a turning point in methotrexate treatment. Min Chui Li and Roy Hertz discovered this.
In this way there were many inventions in the field of chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is something very effective in treatment of cancer. There are so many people who are benefitted with these inventions and breakthrough. There is blockage in the growth of cancer cells. People who could not get the benefit of chemotherapy are really unlucky. It’s true that there are many side effects as associated with chemotherapy. But with weighing the risk and the benefits one will be able to finalize as to which treatment is perfectly apt. If the risk of being normal again is low then in that case there would be no other option except for chemotherapy. This is because chemotherapy, even though will diminish the quality of the patient’ life but yet increase the chances of increasing his/her life span.
